About

Jack MacGregor is a playwright and director from the Scottish Highlands making work across loads of mediums and spaces. Jack is represented by Brennan Artists.

Jack has been awarded a Fringe First, a Scottish Arts Club Leading Light Award, a Summerhall Lustrum Prize, and a bursary from MGCfutures to support his work as a playwright. There’s been a couple near misses, a few ‘almosts’ like being shortlisted finalist for the St. Andrews Playwright Award, a longlisted director the JMK Directing Award, and a longlisted writer for the RSC’s 37 Plays competition.

Jack has been a resident artist with the National Theatre of Scotland, an associate artist with Dogstar Theatre Company, and was a fellowship writer for the Scottish Society of Playwrights 50th anniversary. Jack has recently been awarded a Playwright Studio Scotland's Self-Led Project grant. Jack has recently showcased new work at the Tron Theatre, Eden Court Theatre, and the Cromarty-based artist collective "We Have Questions".

Above all else, Jack values theatre and screen work as a means of sharing life’s experiences, for radical experiments that make us look at the world in new ways. Jack is a writer with a global set of interests and balances this scope with stories set in the north of Scotland. Jack is interested in work that challenges and excites, the kind of stories that don’t pull their punches.

it can also be a bit of a laugh sometimes, and that’s good
